For history we use Story of the World.  There are several volumes depending on what period of history you want to study.  You can find them on Amazon here:

The accompanying Activity books have additional information, as well as extra things to do, map work pages, and coloring pages to copy that will enhance your student’s experience and understanding.  Sometimes I don’t like the activity books.  I like these though.
