Hot Fudge Sundae Cake

Do you have 20 minutes?

Of course you do.   This easy cake takes 20 minutes from start to hot, chocolatey deliciousness on your plate.  My mom gave me this recipe a very long time ago, though I think she got it originally from an old cookbook called My Favorite Recipes.  Perfect for your late night chocolate cravings!

Hot Fudge Sundae Cake

1 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 T. cocoa powder, 2 t. baking powder, 1/4 t. salt.  Stir these ingredients together in a bowl.

Easy.

Next add 1/2 cup milk, 2 T. oil (I use canola), 1 t. vanilla, and 1 cup chopped walnuts.  Pour batter into a greased microwave safe dish (I use a round, 2 qt. dish).

It will look like this.

Now sprinkle over the top of this 1 cup packed brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder in two layers.  Do NOT stir these in.  Even though you will want to.  Really.  Badly.

Looks messy, huh?

Then pour 1 3/4 cups boiling, hot water (I heat mine in my electric kettle, but you can microwave it too) right over the top of the whole mess.  Do NOT stir.  Even though now, especially if you are OCD like me, you will really, REALLY want to stir it.

It will look like this.  Like a messy, chocolatey lake.

Stick this mess into the microwave, set it for 8-10 minutes (my microwave takes 10,) and walk away.  Go read a magazine or something.  Then, when the timer beeps, pull it out.

It will still look messy.  It will look somewhat liquidy (is that a word?) Don’t worry about that. Get some vanilla ice cream and a bowl or plate.  Scoop some out and put the ice cream on top.  Make sure to get some of the batter and some of the chocolate sauce.  Enjoy!

    1. It is yummy. Tiff asked me to make a virtual cake for her hubs b-day on facebook (My Crowded Kitchen) so I had to make something loaded with chocolate of course.
