Homeschool, Homeschool Resources

Homeschool Mom Resource Roundup

This week I have been starting to think more intently about the upcoming homeschool year and what works and what needs to be revised.  I have been reorganizing and cataloging our curriculum to see what we have (a ton of stuff – lots of random stuff) and what we need for next year (not a whole lot this time fortunately).  I have also been finding stuff to get rid of (YAY!!!!!) that we won’t be needing anymore (I am looking at you Bob Books).

As I was doing this fairly mindless job, I was watching/listening to some new-to-me YouTubers that I really enjoyed.  I ended up binge watching some YouTube videos from these inspiring people and thought I would share them with you today.

Inspiration!

The first one is a lady that I had heard about from a fellow homeschool mom who was reading her book, Teaching From Rest – Sarah Mackenzie.  I think that the ideas are very appealing.  Granted, she uses co-ops and tutors and classes to assist with her own homeschool, but the principle ideas are pretty engaging and she does have multiple children, which is very encouraging to me as a mom trying to work with teaching multiple grade levels.

She has also written a book called The Read-Aloud Family:  Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections With Your Kids which has been highly recommended by a good friend.  I plan to read both of these books as soon as possible.  I would encourage you to check them out.  Here is a link to her blog at her website which I also found helpful:  https://readaloudrevival.com/blog/.  Anyone want to read the books with me? 🙂

In watching through Sarah’s videos, I first heard of the concept of scholé.  I had never heard of it before.  This lecture from Dr. Christopher Perrin gives a great overview and I love the idea.  This is only part one.  If you are interested, you can find the other parts on YouTube.  While I didn’t particularly connect with him as a speaker, I found the info. to be very valuable.

And the third one I am loving right now is Julie Bogart from Brave Writer.  I found this particular video very encouraging as I am often plagued by the “what ifs.”

I hope that you are also encouraged and uplifted by some of these resources.  Please feel free to leave any tips or ideas you are loving too.  I love finding great resources for my homeschool as well.
